Ahonui

Everything it does.

Every part of Ahonui, what it is for, and what it will not do.

01 A break

Need a break from your phone? Take one.

Pick the apps and tap once. They stay blocked until you come back and end it, whether that is ten minutes or all weekend. Or put a clock on it, five minutes to eight hours, and it lifts by itself.

There is nothing to earn and nothing to ration. Take as many as you want, as long as you want. Keep the ones you take often by name, or just say “Take a break in Ahonui.”

Make it strict and the End button is gone: not on the page, not on the block, not on the lock screen. The clock ends it, or a gem if you hold one. A never blocked list stays open through every block, a habit’s or a break’s, so the phone and the map never go dark.

  • A break blocks apps. It asks nothing of your day and changes no streak.

02 Strict mode

If you dare.

Strict mode is on from your first day. You can switch it off, but it keeps running until midnight.

Finishing the habit always works. Log the last glass, mark it done, or spend a gem, and the block opens.

  • Turning it off waits until tomorrow. Finishing never does.
Strict mode

On. Every block holds until the thing is done. Off from midnight. Blocks stay on until then.

Off in --:--:--

Turn it off. Then try to open something.

03 Medication

The pill first. Then the phone.

From each dose time until it is logged in Health, the apps wait. Miss the morning and it asks for the afternoon, never both.

No jokes on this one. Nothing about it reaches a friend. The name never leaves your phone.

04 Milestones

Not all or nothing.

A block does not have to wait for the whole goal. Messages at 16 oz, YouTube at 32, the rest at 64. The day still counts at the goal. The apps open in the order you chose.

Open a blocked app and the rule is written on it: “Then more at 32 oz, everything at 64 oz.”

05 Rest days

Rest on purpose. The streak does not notice.

Weekdays only. Paused for the knee. A rest day steps over your streak; only finishing short ends it.

Name any habit, check it off yourself, and the apps wait for that too.

06 The day back

A day you missed is not gone.

Fall short and the streak ends. Open Ahonui and it offers that day back.

And a friend can send you a streak cover.

  • Missing one day does not break a habit. Deciding you are someone who cannot do this is what does. So the day is offered back before that thought arrives.

07 Food

A meal you will still recognise next month.

Most food logs ask you to become a person who weighs their lunch. This one asks for a photo and a serving. Search a licensed database when you want the numbers, save the things you eat every week as your own, and set a goal for calories and protein if a goal helps you.

The photo is the part that matters later. A row saying 490 calories tells you nothing in October. The picture tells you what you actually ate.

  • Point the camera at it, or pick the photo you already took.
  • Search a licensed database, or enter it by hand.
  • Save the meals you repeat. They are one tap after that.
  • Calories and protein on Today, next to everything else.

Your meal photos never leave the backend. Nothing looks at them, no assistant you connect can reach them, and they are never used to train anything.

08 Widgets

Log the glass without unlocking. The block is gone before you are back.

Every habit has a widget. Lock Screen, Home Screen, Control Center, StandBy. A glass logged there lifts its block the same as in the app, and a running fast or break keeps its clock in the Dynamic Island while you are in something else.

The fast counts down to its next milestone and names it. The weigh-in widget says whether it is done. Never the number.

09 Patterns

Three months, on one screen.

A streak tells you about today. It cannot tell you that you slip every Thursday, or that the fast you keep ending early is ending forty minutes early. Patterns counts every settled day in the range and says what it found, in a sentence.

Nothing here is a guess or a score. Each finding names the days it rests on, so you can disagree with it.

  • Weight held at 178 lb over three months.
  • Water slipped three of the last five Thursdays.
  • Your fasts end 40 minutes early on average.
  • Every block you opened with a gem was after 10pm.

10 Friends

Bring one person.

A friend sees three of five met, and nothing else. Not the numbers, not the meals, not the medication. Take on one habit together for a week, or race a dozen friends for a month, and watch each other do it.

A word on your block screen at the moment you are staring at it. A streak cover for a day you finish short. A jeer when you tap past, if you let them.

11 Quests

Or take on a quest with everyone.

Ahonui runs quests anyone can join: one thing, a set number of days, a leaderboard, and a badge for whoever earns it. Everyone on the board sees the name you chose, or your handle if you chose none. Only friends see your face and your days.

The thing can be a habit, or it can be specific: thirty minutes of tennis a day, most days this month. A quest that names a workout counts that workout, the same amount for everybody in it, whatever anyone's own goals happen to be.

The quests are in the app, under Quests.

12 Gems

Passing is allowed. It costs a gem.

Sweep the day, every habit you scheduled, and earn a gem. A gem buys fifteen minutes, and the pass is recorded where you can see it. The honest exit is always free.

  • Opening a block never breaks a streak. Finishing short does.

13 Siri

Hands busy. Say it instead.

Tell Siri, with the screen locked and the app closed, and it is logged. No signal needed: it lands on the phone first and syncs when it can.

  • “Log a glass in Ahonui”40 oz of 64 today.
  • “Log a meal in Ahonui”Lunch logged.
  • “Start a fast in Ahonui”Fasting. Goal 16h.
  • “How is my fast in Ahonui”12h 58m in, goal 16h.
  • “End my fast in Ahonui”10h 12m in of 16h. Ending now logs it as broken.
  • “Mark stretching done in Ahonui”Stretching done today.
  • “Take a break in Ahonui”Break started, 30 minutes.
  • “Snooze my blocks in Ahonui”Snooze 3 habits until the end of today?
  • “How is today in Ahonui”3 of 5 met, 12-day streak.

Nothing you say loosens a strict block. Ending a fast early, snoozing a habit and discarding a fast all ask before they happen.

14 Your agent

Your agent, not ours.

We are not building you another chatbot. Ahonui connects to the assistant you already pay for, and it is included: nothing extra to buy, no credits to run out of.

Describe lunch and the meal is in, macros and all. It can log your day, pause a habit, set up a new one, and tell you how the month went: which days you swept, which habit slips first. Everything it does is marked as its work. It can never choose which apps are blocked. That choice never leaves your phone.

ate a poke bowl and a spam musubi for lunch. how's the month going?

Logged: 690 cal, 74g carbs, 41g protein. Water is 11 days running. Movement slipped on three Tuesdays in a row.
